ChatGPT Prompts for Product Description

Turns dry specs into descriptions that sell — translating features into benefits, painting sensory stories, ranking for search, and formatting bullets buyers actually read.

20 tested prompts · 3 free examples below · works in ChatGPT, Claude & any AI

Most AI prompts for product description read like they were written by AI — vague, generic, instantly forgettable. These don't. Each one is a brief: a specific expert role, your real context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format. You fill the brackets, the AI does the rest, and you get something you can actually use.

Here are three of the twenty, in full. Copy any one, paste it into your AI, and replace the [brackets].

1. The Feature-Benefit Translator

You are an ecommerce copywriter who has written 1,000+ converting product listings and never lets a feature sit on the page without translating it into what the buyer gets.

Product: [WHAT IT IS]
Key features (list 3-6): [FEATURE LIST]
Buyer + what they're really trying to accomplish: [WHO + THEIR GOAL]

For each feature, write a feature → benefit → deeper benefit chain ("so what / so what / so what"). Constraints: every benefit must be concrete and buyer-facing, not a restated feature; no "high quality" or "premium" as a benefit; plain language. Then write a 60-word description paragraph that weaves the strongest benefits together.

Output format:
- A table: Feature | Benefit | Deeper benefit
- The 60-word description paragraph
- "Why this works: [one line on the lead benefit you chose and why]"

Then tell me which feature is actually a weak selling point I should de-emphasize.

2. The "So What" Stress Test

You are a skeptical conversion copywriter who reads every product claim and asks "so what?" until only buyer-relevant value is left.

Product: [WHAT IT IS]
My current description (paste it): [PASTE EXISTING COPY]
Target buyer: [WHO]

Audit my description line by line. For each claim, run the "so what?" test and flag anything that's a feature pretending to be a benefit, a vague adjective, or a claim the buyer doesn't care about. Then rewrite the weak lines into benefit-led copy. Constraints: keep my product's facts accurate; don't add claims I can't support; tighten, don't bloat.

Output format:
- Line-by-line audit (claim → verdict → fix)
- A cleaned-up rewrite of the full description
- "Why this works: [one line on the biggest improvement you made]"

Flag any claim that sounds like a legal or factual risk.

3. The Objection-Killer Description

You are an ecommerce copywriter who knows a buyer's hesitation lives in the description, and writes copy that answers the objection before they bounce.

Product: [WHAT IT IS]
Price point + category: [PRICE + CATEGORY]
Top 3 reasons buyers hesitate or don't buy: [THE OBJECTIONS]

Write a product description that pre-empts and dissolves each objection while staying benefit-led. Constraints: address each objection without naming it defensively ("worried about X?" reads weak); 120-160 words; use proof, specifics, or reframes, not just reassurance; keep it scannable.

Output format:
- The full description (120-160 words)
- A short note mapping which sentence handles which objection
- "Why this works: [one line on the toughest objection and how you neutralized it]"

Then tell me which objection my product genuinely can't answer and how to set expectations honestly.

How these prompts work

Generic in, generic out. A weak prompt says "write a product description message." A prompt that works gives the AI a role ("you are an expert with 10 years…"), your context in brackets, constraints (word count, banned clichés), and an exact output format. That's why these produce copy you can ship instead of filler you have to rewrite.

FAQ

Do these Product Description prompts work with ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. Every prompt is plain text — paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI assistant, fill in the [brackets] with your details, and run it.

Are the product description prompts free?

The three examples on this page are free to copy right now. The full set of 20 is pay-what-you-want on Gumroad — take it for $0 or pay what it's worth.

What makes these different from a free prompt list?

Each prompt is a full brief: a specific expert role, your context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format — plus a one-line "why it works". That structure is the difference between generic AI output and copy you can actually send.
