ChatGPT Prompts for Cold Outreach

Turns a blank inbox into booked meetings — every stage of cold outreach, from first touch to signed proposal, as a fill-in brief.

20 tested prompts · 3 free examples below · works in ChatGPT, Claude & any AI

Most AI prompts for cold outreach read like they were written by AI — vague, generic, instantly forgettable. These don't. Each one is a brief: a specific expert role, your real context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format. You fill the brackets, the AI does the rest, and you get something you can actually use.

Here are three of the twenty, in full. Copy any one, paste it into your AI, and replace the [brackets].

1. The Pattern-Interrupt Opener

You are a cold email strategist who has tested over 10,000 first-touch emails and knows that the first line decides whether the rest gets read. Your job is to write a cold email that breaks the prospect's "this is a pitch" pattern in the opening line.

CONTEXT
- My company: [WHAT YOU SELL IN ONE PLAIN SENTENCE]
- Prospect: [NAME], [TITLE] at [COMPANY]
- What I know about them: [ONE REAL, SPECIFIC FACT — a recent hire, post, launch, or change]
- The result I help people like them get: [CONCRETE OUTCOME, e.g. "cut SDR ramp time from 90 to 45 days"]

CONSTRAINTS
- Under 90 words total, body only.
- Opening line must NOT mention my company, "I," "hope," or "reaching out." It should make them think "huh, that's not a normal sales email."
- One single CTA, phrased as a low-pressure question (no "book a call").
- No buzzwords: synergy, leverage, circle back, touch base, game-changer.
- 5th-grade reading level. Short sentences.

OUTPUT FORMAT
1. Subject line (under 5 words, lowercase, looks internal not marketed)
2. Email body
3. Why this works: one line explaining the psychological lever in the opener.

2. The Specific-Compliment Cold Email

You are an outbound copywriter known for compliments that land because they're specific enough that nobody could copy-paste them to another prospect. Generic flattery kills cold emails; you do the opposite.

CONTEXT
- Prospect: [NAME], [TITLE] at [COMPANY]
- The specific thing I genuinely admire: [REAL DETAIL — a product decision, a talk they gave, a metric, a piece of content, a strategic move]
- My offer: [WHAT YOU SELL]
- The bridge between the compliment and my offer: [HOW THE THING I ADMIRE CONNECTS TO THE PROBLEM I SOLVE]

CONSTRAINTS
- Under 100 words.
- The compliment must reference the specific detail above and explain WHY it's good — proving I actually looked, not scraped.
- Transition from compliment to offer in one sentence; never gush.
- No "I came across your profile" or "I've been following your work."
- One soft CTA.

OUTPUT FORMAT
1. Subject line (under 6 words, references the specific thing)
2. Email body
3. Why this works: one line on why specificity beats flattery in cold email.

3. The Question-First Approach

You are a sales emailer who opens with a question so relevant the prospect feels compelled to answer it in their head — then keeps reading to see if you have the answer.

CONTEXT
- Prospect: [NAME], [TITLE] at [COMPANY]
- Their likely top priority this quarter: [WHAT SOMEONE IN THIS ROLE IS MEASURED ON]
- The problem I solve: [PROBLEM]
- Proof I can solve it: [ONE NUMBER OR CLIENT RESULT]

CONSTRAINTS
- Under 85 words.
- First line is a single, sharp question about their world — not "did you know" trivia and not a yes/no I can't see them caring about.
- Never answer the question fully in the email; tease that you have a method.
- One CTA framed as "worth a look?" energy, not "let's hop on a call."
- Banned: "quick question," "just checking in," "I wanted to."

OUTPUT FORMAT
1. Subject line (the question itself, shortened, under 7 words)
2. Email body
3. Why this works: one line on why an open loop drives the reply.

How these prompts work

Generic in, generic out. A weak prompt says "write a cold outreach message." A prompt that works gives the AI a role ("you are an expert with 10 years…"), your context in brackets, constraints (word count, banned clichés), and an exact output format. That's why these produce copy you can ship instead of filler you have to rewrite.

FAQ

Do these Cold Outreach prompts work with ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. Every prompt is plain text — paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI assistant, fill in the [brackets] with your details, and run it.

Are the cold outreach prompts free?

The three examples on this page are free to copy right now. The full set of 20 is pay-what-you-want on Gumroad — take it for $0 or pay what it's worth.

What makes these different from a free prompt list?

Each prompt is a full brief: a specific expert role, your context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format — plus a one-line "why it works". That structure is the difference between generic AI output and copy you can actually send.
