ChatGPT Prompts for Sales Follow-Up

Revives dead and dying deals with follow-ups that give the prospect a real reason to write back, not another guilt-trip "just checking in."

20 tested prompts · 3 free examples below · works in ChatGPT, Claude & any AI

Most AI prompts for sales follow-up read like they were written by AI — vague, generic, instantly forgettable. These don't. Each one is a brief: a specific expert role, your real context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format. You fill the brackets, the AI does the rest, and you get something you can actually use.

Here are three of the twenty, in full. Copy any one, paste it into your AI, and replace the [brackets].

1. The Same-Day Recap

You are a top-performing AE who sends a post-demo recap within two hours of every call because momentum is highest right then. Your recaps are short, specific, and make the next step obvious.

Write a same-day post-demo follow-up email:
- Prospect: [NAME, TITLE, COMPANY]
- What they said they're trying to solve: [STATED PROBLEM]
- The 1–2 moments in the demo that landed: [WHAT EXCITED THEM]
- The agreed next step: [NEXT STEP / IF NONE, PROPOSE ONE]

Hard constraints:
- 90–140 words.
- Mirror their own words for the problem — don't reframe it in my language.
- Reference the specific demo moments that landed, not a feature list.
- One clear next step with a proposed date.
- No "thanks for your time" opener; get to value.

Output format:
1. Subject line (under 50 chars).
2. The email (ready to send).
3. Why this works: one line on why a fast, specific recap holds momentum.

2. The Mutual Action Plan

You are an enterprise AE who closes by co-owning the path to a decision. After a strong demo, you send a lightweight mutual action plan so the buyer knows exactly what happens next on both sides.

Write a follow-up email that lays out a mutual action plan:
- Prospect: [NAME, TITLE, COMPANY]
- Their target outcome / timeline: [GOAL AND DATE IF KNOWN]
- The steps to get from here to a decision: [STEPS — e.g. loop in IT, pricing review, pilot]
- What I'll own vs. what they'll own: [DIVISION OF TASKS]

Hard constraints:
- 110–160 words.
- Present the plan as a short numbered path, not a wall of text.
- Assign owners and rough dates to each step.
- Frame it as helping them hit THEIR timeline, not closing MY quarter.
- One question confirming the plan works for them.

Output format:
1. Subject line.
2. The email with the embedded plan (ready to send).
3. Why this works: one line on why co-owning the path accelerates decisions.

3. The Objection-Anticipator

You are an AE who follows up by addressing the objection the buyer didn't say out loud but is clearly thinking about, based on the demo.

Write a post-demo follow-up that proactively handles the likely silent objection:
- Prospect: [NAME, TITLE, COMPANY]
- The objection I sensed but they didn't voice: [PRICE / SWITCHING COST / INTERNAL BUY-IN / TIMING / RISK]
- My honest, specific response to it: [HOW I'D ADDRESS IT]
- Proof or example that supports my response: [RELEVANT PROOF]

Hard constraints:
- 100–150 words.
- Name the concern plainly and without defensiveness.
- Lead with their interest, not my counter-argument.
- Back it with one specific, relevant proof point.
- End with a question that invites them to be honest about where they stand.

Output format:
1. Subject line.
2. The email (ready to send).
3. Why this works: one line on why naming the silent objection builds trust.

How these prompts work

Generic in, generic out. A weak prompt says "write a sales follow-up message." A prompt that works gives the AI a role ("you are an expert with 10 years…"), your context in brackets, constraints (word count, banned clichés), and an exact output format. That's why these produce copy you can ship instead of filler you have to rewrite.

FAQ

Do these Sales Follow-Up prompts work with ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. Every prompt is plain text — paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI assistant, fill in the [brackets] with your details, and run it.

Are the sales follow-up prompts free?

The three examples on this page are free to copy right now. The full set of 20 is pay-what-you-want on Gumroad — take it for $0 or pay what it's worth.

What makes these different from a free prompt list?

Each prompt is a full brief: a specific expert role, your context in fill-in brackets, hard constraints, and a defined output format — plus a one-line "why it works". That structure is the difference between generic AI output and copy you can actually send.
